New Refrigerated Tuck From Walmart Foundation

Vehicle Ensures Transport of Fresh, Nutritious Food to Benefit Mid-Michigan’s Hungry

Mid-Michigan Food Bank and Feeding America announced today it will provide thousands ofadditional meals and be able to pick up more donations to feed mid-Michigan’s hungry with a new refrigerated food truck donated by the Walmart Foundation.

Valued at more than $90,000, the truck makes it possible for fresh fruit, vegetables and other nutritious foods to be safely delivered from retail locations to the food bank to helpthousands of people in mid-Michigan suffering from hunger.

The vehicle donated to Mid-Michigan Food Bank is among 20 refrigerated food trucks and 15 mobile pantries valued at $4 million that the Walmart Foundation is donating to 33 Feeding America food banks nationwide. The donation is part of Walmart’s $19 million campaign to help U.S. nonprofits dedicated to fighting hunger and providing other basic needs.

Walmart’s giving comes at a critical time:USDA reports 1 in 6 people live in households without adequate food on the table, and U.S. Census Bureau data shows more than 46 million Americans live in poverty, the highest number recorded in the U.S. in 52 years.
