Other Ways to Support the Food Bank

Hold regular food drives throughout the year. Find resources to get started here.

Organize a “jeans day” in your office. Employees donate $5 in exchange for dressing in jeans on a specific day. (Many employers match charitable contributions made by their employees.)

Adopt a pantry, community kitchen or shelter. You don't need to start a program to get involved in feeding hungry people in your community. Find the nearest pantry, kitchen or shelter and ask about their needs.

Support MMFB events and fundraisers. Encourage members of your organization to attend events to support the Food Bank. To find the next event, call Alison at 517-702-3349.

Drive food. Help distribute the food from our warehouse to local pantries.

Hold a "reverse offering." Hold a reverse offering with your congregation periodically. Place slips of paper naming food items in an offering plate. Ask members to take one slip as the plate passes, then bring that food item the following week.

Be an advocate for hunger-relief organizations. Spread the word! Hunger is a problem that affects thousands of mid-Michigan residents, so tell your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors to help provide this basic human need.

Support local community gardens. Provide financial support of a Mobile Food Pantry truckload. Learn about the Garden Project in Ingham County. Offer land for a community garden. Encourage members to "grow a row" to donate if they garden.

Play the food trivia game (did you know there are purple potatoes in Alaska?) and Kraft Foods will donate $50 to Feeding America.
