| If you're holding a Food & Fund Drive centered on Weekend Survival Kits, here is a helpful shopping list to distribute to participants. |
|
A surprising number of Lansing-area children rely on resources such as free or reduced-priced school lunch, during the school year.
The Weekend Survival Kits are designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.
The kits are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before the weekend or holiday vacation. The kits are so desperately needed that the students’ younger siblings—and even their parents—are eating from the kits.
Other area schools are asking to join the program now. If your church, Rotary club, or other organization would like to help out with this program--or even adopt a school--you can contact:

To help by donating food, here's a list of the most-requested items:
- peanut butter & jelly
- fruit cups (please not metal)
- small juice boxes
- dried fruit and raisins
- cereal in individual serving boxes
- pasta with protein (chili mac, canned ravioli)
- granola bars
- franks and beans
Think nutritious, individually portioned, well-rounded, safe, easily consumed.
The average cost of one Weekend Survival Kit is $4.25. At the Mid-Michigan Food Bank, $1 has the buying power of $10 at the store.
